Jim Evans is a Senior Scientist at the USDOE Ames Laboratory and Professor of Mathematics, Iowa State University. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society. His research interests include Statistical Mechanical and Multiscale Modeling of Non-Equilibrium Processes, mainly at surfaces, closely integrating modeling with experimental studies. Systems and phenomena of interest include: (i) epitaxial growth and relaxation in thin metal films; (ii) etching and growth on Si(100) surfaces; (iii) catalytic reactions on metal surfaces and nanostructures; (v) fundamental studies of non-equilibrium phase transitions in chemical reaction models; (iv) structure, transport, and reaction phenomena in mesoporous silica.
