Mathis Plapp is permanent staff member of Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, and currently works in the Condensed Matter Physics Laboratory at Ecole Polytechnique, Palaiseau, France; he is also Associate Professor of Physics at Ecole Polytechnique. He obtained his Ph.D. degree at University of Orsay, France, and then spent two years as a research associate in the physics department of Northeastern University, Boston, USA, before joining his current position. His main interest is the numerical modelling of pattern formation phenomena, in particular microstructure formation during solidification. Over the last decades, he has actively taken part in the rapid development of phase-field methods for solidification and epitaxial growth.
