Makio Uwaha is professor in Department of Physics, Nagoya University. He received D. Sc. from Nagoya University, and worked at University of Illinois, Laue-Langevin Institute and Tohoku University. He has been interested in statistical physics of crystal growth, non-equilibrium pattern formation on surfaces and low temperature physics. His research subjects include (i) non-equilibrium pattern formation of steps, (ii) relaxation of mesoscopic structures on a surface, (iii) mechanism of symmetry breaking in crystal growth, (iv) fractal aggregation growth in a diffusion field, (v) elasticity effect in heteroepitaxial growth, (vi) dynamics of the solid-superfluid interface of 4He. He received the Paper Award in 1995 and the Contribution Award in 2004 from Japanese Association for Crystal Growth.
